Review of 'An Offbeat Story'

Plot: 3/5 

The plot revolves around life of a hero, whose father wanted him to be an IAS officer but he chooses journalism and his simple yet unlike story is presented in the novel.

Writing Style: 3/5

 ‘An Offbeat Story’ is really an offbeat story with no IIT, IIM or any other clichéd names or degrees. The story in the beginning gave me yucky feelings. Being a modern day reader as well as literature student, I have always found love making scenes unnecessary. If you remove them from the novel, it does not affect novel in anyway. This trend begun properly with Chetan Bhagat and continues to this one. Novel does not flow in a fluid way, it flows like fall. Abrupt changes confuses at once like it did me in beginning. Here is the example, which will make you understand why I consider to be really an Offbeat story. 

“When I finally went I was reminded of the time that we spent together. “ These moments will never come back,” She told me once. They never did. She was my first love.” 

Then abruptly starts his essay saying,” I wrote about India’s noisy Fringe Elements that makes life difficult for young couples anywhere.” This essay starts from page no. 29 and continues to 33 and on next page a new chapter begins without closing.

Above all confusions and sexual interactions (MAY BE TO EXPRESS INDIVIDUALITY), It is really an offbeat story. 

My overall rating for this work is 3/5.

    Really? No IIT/IIM background (both in the story and in real) means a lot these days. People need to come out of that shell very soon, I reckon. Enough of that CBhagat style!

    yups dear, you are right. I feel the same but it is reality. Somehow I find this shell breaking. I hv posted one more review of The Mahabharata Secret. It has certainly cracked the shell. :) :)
